Hanako abruptly cut Akane off when he was about to say that Kou likes Yashiro. And he was visibly upset and bothered about it. Could it be because of confession he did before.

When he confessed, Yashiro not knowing it was for a mission was really giving thought about it. She was about to say yes. She was willing to date him just because he 'liked' her. What if Hanako was remember that and feared that if Yashiro knew about Kou liking her she would go out with him.

I do find it cute how Hanako and Yashiro are usually holding hands in the official art. And Hanako lovingly taking care of fish Yashiro in the last one is sending me---

Hanako making himself the protagonist of the alternate world in the Picture Perfect arc will never not be funny to me.

Hanako actively makes himself the relatively popular boy who's good at sports, good at everything, gets to show off his intelligence, has a lot of friends, and those friends behave as his wingmen in helping him get the girl he wants. Because in that world, Aoi actively tells Yashiro that 'Amane' is a catch---meaning he actively set it up for Yashiro to eventually relent into going out with him. I'm pretty sure even in the anime, it even has Aoi (or the fake one anyway) say, "His height doesn't hold him back on the field"

Like bro's just making an advertisement for himself---

Of course this dude who's gone through most of his life with no one all of a sudden makes himself a beloved and well-known student who gets the girl. On one hand, it's funny---but on the other hand, it's low-key kinda sad, lol.

Forget "Would you love me if I was a worm?"

Hananene already answered the question of, "Would you love me if I was a fish?"

I'm legit starting to think I ship Amanene more than Hananene. I know that's gonna ruffle some feathers but here's why.

And just for clarification purposes, I'm talking about Amanene from a very general standpoint in terms of dynamic. As much as I'd like to include the picture perfect Amane, it was still Hanako putting on a manipulative front in order to keep Yashiro imprisoned in a state of immortality against her will. And yes, I know it's because he 'cares so much' but kidnapping is still kidnapping bro.

For me, I think the reason why Amanene has more appeal to me is because they offer a glimpse into what Yashiro and Amane would have been like if they were both alive in the same timeline. It's Amane just being himself---no mask, no duties, nothing that forces him to be someone or something else---it's just HIM. And while I very well could be making a stretch of things, I believe it's why I like the concept of Amanene so much. It's kind of a better "What if?" situation whereas the picture perfect arc was plain WandaVision (which I also made a post regarding that point).

And sure, one could argue that Hanako was relaying true parts of himself during the picture perfect when he was posing as Amane (seeing as he legit asked her out to a movie and confirmed it was a date). But if we're talking Amane completely unmasked, the true version of him---I think the dynamic between him and Yashiro would've been really cute. If there was a spinoff or AU where it was Yashiro and Amane interacting regularly, I would eat it up because I am a SUCKER for the shy guy x tough girl trope.

I truly think that if such a thing were to be made, it'd make complete sense for Amane to be the shy and reserved kid (no durr, look at the poor guy's backstory) and that Yashiro becomes one of the few---if not only---people to defend and accept him for who he is. And since it's canon that Amane has always had a thing for um...thick legs, I don't think it'd be off par for that to also be a reason he'd fall for her.

There's so much cute material that could come out of Amanene and as much as I enjoy Hananene, Amanene (to me) feels like an objectively more adorable and less morally gray dynamic that I (personally) have not seen experimented with often.

But I dunno, I guess it's just me---

Listen, I enjoy Hanako as a character. I do.

But if someone were to offer me a job with the promise of acting as the guy's version of J. Jonah Jameson, I'd gladly sign up because Hanako is a menace. If you read the manga you know what I'm talking about.

I don't care how cute the ship is or how much I ship it, I refuse to overlook the fact this dude was willing to just let Aoi die off if it meant Yashiro could live and the fact he refuses to tell Yashiro anything (and the fact he was complete perv for a while).

Intentional or not, he does not respect her autonomy. He does not let her genuinely make choices for herself in terms of what she thinks is best for her. He knows full well Yashiro would be against the stuff he does, that's why he doesn't tell her anything. He knows it'll hurt her or upset her in some way, but doesn't care because he assumes he knows what's best for her without bothering to ask for her consent on the matter.

It's a 'you don't know what you want, Luigi know what you want' kinda deal and it irks me at times when I truly sit down to think about it.

"He does it because he loves her---"

So you're telling me that if you had cancer that was gonna kill you off early and your boyfriend made plans behind your back to kill your best friend---a person who's supported you for years---in order to switch your conditions to keep you alive, you would NOT lose your mind? Yeah, I'm calling cap on that.

I understand he has his reasons and you're still allowed to like the ship, I clearly still do. But can we all stop acting like Hanako is an innocent angel who doesn't know what he's doing?

The sooner we admit Hanako is a yandere, the better because what is he if not that?

As much as sometimes I'm done with Hanako's slick self, I gotta admit that possessed Yashiro is lowkey a mood tho

Yo, Yashiro's a Disney princess and you can't convince me she isn't. Don't look at me like that, you know I'm right.

Animals talk to her (she's had multiple instances of this).

Pretty sure she was poisoned at one point unless I'm wrong.

She ain't got no parents (not any we ever see).

She's under a curse.

She can sing because she played the role of Dorothy for the Wizard of Oz later on in an alternate timeline (and her voice actress has mad vocals).

She's been kidnapped multiple times and technically enslaved as Hanako's assistant.

Ate an object belonging to a sea witch for a tail in exchange for her human legs.

Has had true love's kiss (you know the chapter I'm talking about).

And all of her problems are solved because a big strong man shows up all the time (Hanako---she's always calling him to save her).

Yashiro is a Disney Princess bro. On top of that, she is canonically a mermaid princess because the mermaid queen tried to enlist her when Yashiro wanted to know more about Hanako.

I will never get over how utterly absurd Hanako's fantasies about Yashiro are. As...Hanako-esque as they are, I think it's somewhat cute how Yashiro is still the most beautiful girl to him. We don't really see him fantasize about anyone but her.

(Hanako for real said, "I'd let her buy me," I can't---)

That's not even talking about how quickly he FOLDS whenever she does take charge

At this point, Hanako just wants Yashiro to overpower him, that's it

Tell me these songs aren't the ESSENCE of Hananene, I freaking dare you

So what I got is: he's short, unpopular, has big eyes, and can throw hands.

Nene, babe, you're only giving pros and no cons here.

It's already bad enough how Hanako attempted to gaslight Yashiro into being in an alternate world. It's even worse that he then put her in a cell until the rest of said reality was done being made.

But wanna know what I think is the most disrespectful aspect of him putting her in the cell?

THE FACT THE INTERIOR LOOKS LIKE SH---

Look in there and analyze. If that ain't the most Temu looking princess bed I done ever seen in my life--

He's already went through the process of manipulating Yashiro and trying to imprison her against her will, but then he has the utter gall to put her in a room that doesn't even look good?!

And I don't wanna hear no excuses. Mei was able to conjure a whole universe with just a pencil and a notebook, yet you're telling me Hanako couldn't ask her to make a nicer room? At that point, that's just plain disrespectful. Even the Beast from Beauty and the Beast gave Belle a much nicer room.

"Oh, it was temporary" Okay but she's a human, not a freaking dog.

You're telling me he couldn't get her a room like THIS? (Well, not EXACTLY like this but you get my point)

Yeah no, Hanako, what the actual heck is wrong with you? (Everything is wrong with him, why did I even ask--)

Imprisonment is already bad enough, but to put her in the most ghetto looking room is mad work. If he wanted her to stay so bad, couldn't he or Mei have at least made it NOT look like a cell?!

And in the anime, it looks even worse. All that's in there is a bed with chains and boxes. Blud couldn't even be bothered to get her GENUINE FURNITURE!

"It's for your safety" my a---

So Yashiro doesn't intervene when Hanako is talking about her upper body and how he's come into contact with it multiple times to someone who clearly doesn't wanna hear it, but draws the line at him talking about her ankles?

Girlie needs better priorities and HR effective immediately, I'm sorry---

In a previous post of mine, I mentioned how Hananene and Wandavision have similarities. I'd like to elaborate on this since I did not before.

Point 1: Hanako and Wanda are both supernatural beings that had access to reality bending prospects

Point 2: Hanako and Wanda both made an alternate reality/universe in order to stay with their loved one since they either died or were close to dying

Point 3: Hanako and Wanda both gaslit their loved ones about the nature of being inside said alternate reality/universe and attempted to forcefully imprison them.

Point 4: Hanako and Wanda were both willing to kill an innocent person in order to stabilize the nature of their said loved ones living

Hananene is WandaVision & vice versa---you can't convince me otherwise.

Random TBHK Headcanons I have

(Remember, these are just headcanons, you can disagree, these are not canon to the real characters)

I think Hanako would know how to dance. I dunno, he just seems like he has that kinda swagger.

Yashiro dyes the tips of her hair teal

Since Akari (the Japanese voice actress for Yashiro) sings the outro to the series "Tiny Light," and also the fact Yashiro was chosen to play Dorothy in an alternate timeline, I fully believe that Yashiro is able to sing

Hanako lets Yashiro off of cleaning duty when she's on her red moon cycle (if you catch my drift)

Hanako would enjoy electro-swing music because it would be a new iteration of music he was used to hearing from his time period.

I could see Yashiro listening to future funk.

Yashiro probably has a Wattpad or AO3 account---you can't convince me she doesn't. She already wrote fanfiction about her dating Teru

Yashiro would definitely play Mystic Messenger.

I for some reason think that Hanako would smell like charcoal. Don't know why, but it seems to stick to me

Mitsuba, somehow, smells like burnt strawberries

The entirety of TBHK is a time loop in the same way it is for Howl's Moving Castle---and Hanako *might* be aware of it. Might.

Considering how pretty Yashiro is, I think some guys in the past might have genuinely secretly liked her outside of Kou, but never said anything because Yashiro initially only wanted hot guys (keyword: Initially---now she's a Hanako simp)

It's canon that Hanako likes Yashiro's legs---and I think the reason why is because he likes the fact they're either squishy, warm, or soft to him. That, or he's like a Victorian man (if you know, you know).

I could see Mitsuba and Kou playing Minecraft together Kou: "Wanna place our Minecraft beds together?" Mitsuba: "Lame traffic safety earring, are you stupid? The answer is yes, you idiot."

If Amane and Yashiro were to be students both alive in the same timeline, Amane would definitely be the shy outcast who has a crush on the moderately popular Yashiro. She'd probably protect him from bullies and he would desperately try to return the favor and want to protect her. He'd develop feelings for her because she would've been one of the very few people to actually be kind to him.

I think the song "Rewrite the Stars" from The Greatest Showman perfectly fits Hanako and Yashiro if you reverse the genders of who's singing which part. Like, instead of Yashiro having Zendaya's part, it's Hanako due to the fact he knows that a relationship with Yashiro is pretty out of bounds and yet he can't help but adore her.

One of the cutest aspects about the direction of Yashiro's character in the newer chapters is how much she's openly simping for Hanako. We even get a glimpse into how Yashiro actually views him.

In the beginning, Yashiro was dead-set on only getting with the hottest of hot guys---the whole prince charming type. In fact, this is why she was obsessed with Teru for quite a bit.

But as of chapter you-know-who, there's very clearly a distinction between how the series/other people portray and see Hanako versus how Yashiro views him.

Throughout all the bullcrap these two go through, Yashiro realizes she can't keep her feelings buried anymore (though, I don't see why you would when you literally fight your way through this world's version of hell just to get to this dude, but I digress) and goes all in with acknowledging she wants nothing more than to be with Hanako.

Heck, even when her former crush, Nakahara was (creepily) hitting on her (actually, he was harassing her), she wanted nothing to do with him because Nakahara wasn't Hanako. It literally takes her a few seconds for her to even remember who he is because that's how insignificant he is in comparison to the one and only toilet ghost.

As she runs away from him due to his downright creeptitude (which ironically enough, smartly shows that he wouldn't have even made a good partner anyway so it was actually a good thing he rejected her), she reflects on how she DID want to confess to someone, but it wasn't to him---it was---say it with me: HANAKO--

And the best part from her reflecting on how she wanted to confess to him, it goes back to that part where he was with her in the stage where they'd be holding the performance for the Wizard of Oz. See how the series objectively portrays him versus how Yashiro sees him?

Yashiro is no longer concerned with any prince charming because in her eyes, Hanako IS exactly THAT. From what she originally saw as this snarky boy in a hat, she now sees him as the most handsome because of who he is and what they've both been through together.

He looks more attractive to her because of the fact she recognizes the bond she has with him and wants nothing more than to delve deeper into it.

As messy as these two are, I will say this: AidaIro are MASTERS at subtext and tugging my heart strings.

I really like revisiting the earlier chapters after reading the newer ones because it helps give new perspective on the earlier interactions of these two.

The way how Hanako speaks to Yashiro, even from the beginning of their partnership, is so cute and sweet in a way I don't know how to explain. Sure, he's definitely still a jerk at times, but the general manner in which he interacts with her makes me smile like an idiot.

I like how he's not even angry or too upset with her, he's simply like, "Stop the cap. Just fess up and I'll help."

Hananene and Wandavision have quite a few similarities when you think about it

I find it hilarious that Yashiro's concept of physical boundaries doesn't exist when it comes to Hanako because she's so used to how physical he is with her. In the beginning of the Picture Perfect arc, and Yashiro's trying to figure out what the quack is going on, she's touching Hanako and stuff to see if he's still a ghost and what not---rightfully distrusting of him and all of this. But here's something I noticed in this panel.

Notice, he didn't say "stop touching me." All he said was "the class is staring." BRUH--

Hanako's feelings for Yashiro, while cute at times, are very terrifying when you think about it because of the stuff he was doing and *willing* to do. At this point, I am just convinced he's one of the best possible iterations of a yandere we could have without it being overly crummy. As much as I ship them, oh boy is it messy.

This dude KNEW this girl was gonna die, so he makes an alternate reality for her to live in and tries to gaslight her into not questioning it so she does. Then imprisons her in a cell until the rest of the said reality is done being made.

And THEN when Yashiro (rightfully) calls him out for this, he immediately switches up and plots to kill her best friend and HIMSELF by having Aoi's lifespan swapped with her's. This guy was willing to commit murder and die as a GHOST. He was willing to die a SECOND time.

And on top of that, when Yashiro calls him out AGAIN for planning to kill Aoi as well, all he had to say was this:

"Well, I like you more than Aoi, Yashiro" LIKE NICKEL, YOU JUST TRIED TO KILL MY BEST FRIEND, BE SO FREAKING FOR REAL NOW, WHAT THE HE---
