Dear US citizens. .

As someone who was born and raised in a censorship heavy and oppressive country, with an honest heart, I can't say I feel a tinge of sympathy for any of you. I want to tell you that you need to stop whining because just like we do, you'll live. I spent my entire life watching you all have infinitely more privilege and audacity to do as you please than I'll ever see in my country, and how unaware you were until it was too late.

However, I will still tell you some very simple things to keep in mind:

Get a trustworthy VPN.

Switch to Firefox.

Make sure you routinely clear your cookies and get trackers off of your back.

Deactivate your Twitter account(s), and send an email to the HQ to erase your data.

(I do not care how proud you are that you were there when Jack was the CEO, would you rather exercise your right to take your data back or let Elon have your information?)

Find unbiased news sources.

(You lot do not have anywhere near the amount of censorship that would require this, but find underground journalists who post on Tor links, if you really need to.)

Decenter yourself while in public.

(Do not speak of your political alliance. Do not mention any marginalized part of you that you are able to hide. Do Not Out Anyone. Keep everyone's information private. Lie, lie, and lie some more. Keep your lips sealed shut and watch out for even the slightest thing that might give you away, it's much easier than you think.)

Be prepared for anything. The laws mean nothing to deranged presidents. The laws are not as infallible as you might think.

Stock up on food. Grains, oils, and canned foods are must haves.

(The most basic foods will reach insane prices in the blink of an eye. Get them while you can. Grow fruits and vegetables at home if you have the means.)

Don't go around complaining about how it's all so unfair.

(It is very unfair and you have every right to be upset, but once again, decenter yourself and stop feeling entitled to being openly dramatic. You Are In Danger, And Complaining Won't Save You.)

This is extremely concerning. This either means that someone who works in TikTok is a huge trumper, or that the United States Government had paid TikTok enough money to spread this message, and I think it's the latter. Why? Because, well, look at the message. Think about how short the ban was in retrospect.

Pair this extremely suspiciously short ban with the US & Canada (and possibly Mexico & etc.) censorship, and you get extremely concerning news that is basically screaming at you "TRUMP IS GREAT! WE ARE NOT A CULT! TRUMP IS GOD! HE WILLED THE APP BACK UP!! PRAISE TRUMPSUS!"

I know I got a little silly at the end, but that is the jist of it. If they are willing to censor anything about politics, what makes you think they won't do it for your own content?

Just... Think about it. And maybe log off. Forever.

When police arrived, they began looking into Massey’s home with flashlights, a neighbor, Cheryl Evans, told the Guardian. Evans wondered why police had not knocked on her door, as they typically have done in the past when searching for suspects. Eventually, Grayson, who is white, and his partner entered the home where they began speaking to Massey. After an initial discussion and request for Massey’s driver’s license,Grayson spotted a pot of boiling water on the stove and ordered Massey to remove it to avoid starting a fire. In doing so, Massey asks the officers – who visibly distance themselves from her as she goes to handle the pot – why they moved away from her. “Where you going?” she asks them. “Away from your hot steaming water,” Grayson answers, with a laugh, before Massey responds: “Away from the hot steaming water? Oh, I’ll rebuke you in the name of Jesus.” With his gun drawn, Grayson closed the distance between himself and Massey, who was beginning to kneel behind a counter with her hands up. “You better fucking not, I swear to God I’ll fucking shoot you right in your fucking face,” Grayson warned. Massey’s death carries on a troubling legacy of racial violence in Springfield: Massey’s family said she is a descendant of William Donnegan, a Black man who was lynched by a white mob but survived during the city’s infamous 1908 race riots that took 17 Black lives over a two-day period in mid-August of that year. As a result of the violence and carnage, a group of white and Black Americans banded together to create the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Massey’s family said that the irony of having to reach out to the NAACP for help after her killing is not lost on them.

I saw something in the news today that truly took my breath away. If you have been paying attention to U.S. politics over the past few days, you’ve most likely seen this woman:

This is Bishop Mariann Budde, and on Monday (Trump’s inauguration) she led an interfaith prayer for Trump and the incoming administration. During the service she asked him to have mercy for LGBTQ+ Americans and undocumented immigrants. This was badly received by the Trump administration (as expected).

After seeing headlines about this woman, I read something that I wanted to share. In 1998 a man named Matthew Shepard was murdered for being gay. I’m not going to get into the details of his death on this post, but please be warned it is extremely triggering if you do choose to read more on your own. Matthew Shepard’s death caused a lot of change in the U.S. regarding how LGBTQ hate crimes are handled, and laws that were passed to protect LGBTQ+ people.

Now you’re probably wondering what Matthew Shepard has to do with an Episcopal bishop. For years after Matthew Shepard’s murder, his family had held onto his remains, too scared to lay him to rest in fear of his final resting place being vandalized. In 2018, Budde had his remains interred at the National Cathedral, which is also the place where the interfaith prayer for Trump and his administration took place. The impact of this really had an effect on me. Budde could have led a non confrontational prayer service, and chosen not to mention the harm that will come to the people Trump and his administration are going after. Instead she chose to call out hate and fear in front of some of the most powerful people on the planet, and at a place that has such a large historic meaning to the LGBTQ community.

In the next few years there will be many challenges in protecting free speech, standing up against hate, and protecting those in our communities. But I would like to believe that for every Donald Trump and Elon Musk, there are people like Marianne Budde. There are those of us who can’t speak up for themselves, so it’s important for those of us who can to amplify our voices, even if it’s not the ‘popular’ thing to do.

Deciding to do something when you’re feeling defeated is hard. If all you can take care of is you today, focus on doing that. Tomorrow or a week from now you can look at what your community needs to do to weather the storm in the long term. Yes communities are hurting now, but having to grieve one more person isn’t going to make anyone’s life any better. Please keep going. Please don’t let this election take you too.

I am Maram Nabulsi from Gaza, a 17-year-old girl. My home in Khan Younis was destroyed, and I found myself and my family living in a camp for displaced people in Mawasi Khan Younis, under the scorching sun, inside a tent swaying in the wind.

I am Ahmed Halas from the besieged North Gaza, I have created my campaign to help my family and save them from the suffering they are living. Our lives, hopes and ambitions have been destroyed, our livelihood has been destroyed, we have lost dear friends and many relatives, our house has been completely destroyed, we live in a plastic tent in the middle of an UNRWA school and we suffer from the heat of the sun which causes headaches, migraines, body allergies and many diseases. There is no food, water, medicine or basic life requirements and the prices are terribly high, we cannot afford to buy anything.

Hello, I am Ahmed from the Gaza Strip, I am still alive after ten months of war. This is my fifth war too. But this war is unlike any other. I am trying to raise money for me and my family, as we are determined to leave to safety while this disaster continues. We want to leave the Gaza Strip towards Egypt through the Rafah crossing and Hala Company.

This was a very difficult decision for me, but this is my fate and the fate of my family. I feel ashamed to ask you to donate enough to save me and my family of 20, most of whom are young children, by raising enough money to reach safety.
