I feel like the thing thats really different about the polish trans experience is that because the language is heavily gendered and asking about a persons gender is very much not normalized, now that my body looks mostly androgynous people started referring to me with grammatical forms that have never been uttered by human tongue before. Last week a woman couldn’t decide what gender I was so after trying several she settled on speaking to me in plural and infinitive

A little boy just looked at me and went “woah! That girl is so tall!! I didn’t know girls could get that tall!” To his grandpa.

Grandpa talked to him about how he had tall women in his family and how pretty tall girls are and the boy said he should ask me out 💀 so grandpa was like “she’s probably already married”

Listening to this exchange was so cute and so gender affirming bc not once did either of them imply I was actually a man I’m gonna cry this was so sweet.

I hate how often some (typically abled) people will go “well, if you can’t [get a specific support], then what?” when it comes to disabilities. As if it’s a “gotcha” moment. And then act like you’re exaggerating when you answer that question honestly.

Disabled people often die from a lack of support. A lot of disability aids are not a luxury, but a basic need in order to live.

“Well what happens if—” people die. People hurt themselves. People hurt others. Disabled people don’t magically become abled if our needs aren’t met.

If a bedbound quadriplegic is caught in a housefire, and there’s nobody there to save them, they’ll probably die. They won’t magically become able-bodied out of sheer will.

If a nonspeaking/nonverbal autistic is denied access to alternative methods of communication, they’ll suffer in silence. They won’t spontaneously become capable of speech.

Disabled people are disabled all the time. Our disabilities don’t go away just because they’re inconvenient, or if we’re in danger.

Sun Tzu is so fucking funny to me because for his time he was legitimately a brilliant tactician but a bunch of his insight is shit like "if you think you might lose, avoid doing that", "being outnumbered is bad generally", and "consider lying."

I waited a bit before making this strip.

After the comic talking about what it was like to grow up with a conservative father who routinely listened to and agreed with conservative talk radio, someone spoke to me the words you see in the comic today.

As you could imagine, it was hurtful to hear something so disgusting.

I wanted to make an immediate response to it, but I ultimately decided that I needed to address my emotions only after I had time to process what was said, and how I was feeling.

I am never going to pretend that I am anything less than an incredibly fortunate person.  Something that I’ve told one of my coworkers is that I don’t have everything I want, but I do have everything I need.  As far as I’m concerned, that makes me one of the most fantastically lucky people in the whole of human history.

I’ve been surrounded by wonderful people and have the ability to provide for myself, and I hope that I’ll continue to be so fortunate.

That said, we all have things that get us down.  Right now, our trans brothers, sisters, and enbys are the target of what’s becoming a global movement against our existence.  We fear for our safety, we fear being cast from society, we fear we’ll lose access to life saving medical treatment.

Many of us grew up confused and afraid of our own bodies and emotions, and had families that, while otherwise loving, exhibited ideals and behaviors that said people like us were less than, that people like us were disgusting or broken.

That’s incredibly damaging not just for a child to grow up with, but for anyone regardless of their age.

While the person who said this comment to me apparently disagrees, I want you all to know that your emotions are real, that the pain you feel is valid, and that it is ok to talk about your feelings.

You don’t need to be the world’s least fortunate person to be allowed to talk about your pain. 

You’re allowed to allow yourself to heal.

We should all be here for each other; to listen, to learn, and to love.

Concept: cursed blade rehabilitation center.
